Meet Sharon Muza – Birth Doula and Lamaze Childbirth Educator

I am a Certified Birth Doula (DONA, PALS) and Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator as well as a DONA Approved Doula Trainer serving the Seattle area.  I have been working professionally in the world of birth and labor support and childbirth education since January, 2004, though I attended my first doula birth in 2001. norahandsharon I have received Doula training  from Seattle Midwifery School, and completed my childbirth education training there as well.  I  am an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr University at the Simkin Center and have been teaching the Labor Support Course since July 2006.  As a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, I teach childbirth education, coping with labor pain, breastfeeding, newborn care, refresher and VBAC classes for New Moon Birth, as well as for other local independent childbirth educators.

I am very active in the birth community, and participate in many birth related organizations.  I serve as President on the REACHE Board, (Regional Association of Childbirth Educators of Puget Sound) and also sit on the Board of Directors of PALS Doulas.  I am a co-leader of the Seattle ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) Chapter.

I participate and present at advanced doula trainings, international birth and childbirth education conferences, and local birth groups so that I can continue to remain up to date on current birth practices and evidence based research that will support my doula and childbirth education clients.  I have taught advanced doula trainings on VBACs and have been chosen to speak on non-pharmacological pain coping techniques at the 2009 Lamaze International Conference in Orlando, FL.  I will also be speaking at the 2010 Lamaze/ICEA joint conference in October, on Teaching VBAC classes.   I am also a guest lecturer at the University of Washington.

My hope as a doula and childbirth educator is to give women a starting point for learning about the power and process of birth and the ability to advocate for themselves before, during and after the birth process. I provide emotional, physical and informational support throughout your pregnancy, while you birth and in the postpartum period.HannahSophieKatie Web
